Being a Bad Blogger

Good evening Bloggity Babes!

I capitalized it, so it’s a real term now. Enjoy.

I totally have a confession – I’ve been such a bad blogger! Hah although I had a post go live on Sunday, the last time I wrote a post for real was Thursday night when I was in Clemson! But hey, you can’t win em all, right? Life totally comes first.

Well, that, and I left my USB drive in Clemson so I haven’t been able to upload pictures – UNTIL tonight when I got a little crafty (:

So I’ve previously said that I have the inability to bring everything with me that I take places. When I go to my best friend’s house, I inevitably get a text that reads something like “Thanks for the shirt and the book” or “thanks for the sunglasses and the shoes” or “thanks for the wallet and the money.” OK, the last one was a little extravagant [mostly because I don’t take my wallet out of my purse KNOWING that I would lose it if I did]. But how about a quick list of what I left in Clemson?

  • USB drive
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Lululemon water bottle

I really liked that water bottle too. I don’t mind the shampoo/conditioner situation so much, because it gave me a reason to go out and buy a new set (: I got Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet shampoo [the same one I had before. PS, what’s a sugar beet?!] and Desert Essence’s Coconut Conditioner! I’m totally obsessed with the conditioner, my hair has smelled like coconut for days!! I’ll totally do a review on the stuff if yall want!

Before I start, I wanna show yall a picture I took Friday at the very end of the tour, it’s one of my very favorite shots of Clemson!

This is Tillman Hall, one of the main buildings on campus! It’s absolutely gorgeous (:

But good news, my dad totally loved the tour! It seriously made me so excited to get all started at school and get settled into my new life! It’s weird because it’s finally starting to set in that I’m practically a grown up! [Psych. I won’t be 18 until like… 11 days prior to move in day.]

But let’s talk about some of the work outs, shall we?!

True to the 21 day yoga challenge, I’ve been making sure to keep up with just a little bit every day, and I’m totally feeling the results! Especially after the car ride, when I could feel my hips loosen WAAAY up after just a little bit of stretching!

Today, I did a quick three miler that took a little bit longer than anticipated, probably because there was  HUGH JASS hill right in the middle! I ended up walking up it, and not only did it take 5+ minutes, my HR didn’t drop below 175 the whole time! It was crazy! Fortunately, the heat wave seems to have dissipated, so the run wasn’t blaaayzin or anything.

How about we check out some of ze eats now, shall we?

Fitnessista’s Perfect Protein Pancakes, topped with a sliced peach [picked some up on the drive home, they’re SC fresh!] and a little maple sizzurp!

Shmoothie bowl for lunch! Topped with pumpkin butter that my dad and I picked up from the same place we got the peaches! Absolutely delicious, by the way! [1c almond milk, 1 scoop Sun Warrior, 1 scoop Chocolate Green Superfood Powder, handful frozen spinach, one banana, and 1/2c pumpkin] Weird combo, but supah delish which is what really matters!

Toast with apple butter [bought with the peaches + pumpkin butter!] and a sliced apple!

Meet dinnerrrrr – whole wheat pasta + grape tomatoes + steamed broc + ketchup …. + more steamed broc. No judgment, right?

That’s most of what I ate Monday, but I totally forgot to snag some pics of some things and I don’t remember the whole deal!

But this morning’s breakfast was scrumptious!

Peanut Candy Cereal

  • 1 Serving cereal of choice [I used TJ’s High Fiber]
  • 1/4c peanut flour
  • Sprinkle of sea salt
  • Sweetener to taste
  • Almond milk to thin
  1. Mix 1/4c peanut flour, TINY sprinkle of sea salt, and sweetener in a small bowl. Slowly add water until flour reaches a thin-ish, almost soupy consistency.
  2. Top with cereal of choice.
  3. Stir cereal and peanut flour mixture until cereal is almost totally covered. If it’s still too thick, pour a tiny bit of almond milk [or cow’s/soy/hemp/rice/whatever] over until you can stir it easily.
  4. Add toppings of choice! Para ejemplo, raspberries and cocoa powder (: BUH-LISS baby!

The best thing about this cereal is that it’s totally adaptable to what you’re feeling! You can change the cereal to anythang you want, change the fruit, change the spread, add some nut butter, get craze with it!

I totally did not snag ANY pics of the other stuff I ate today. #whoops

One thing I did get a picture of? My atrocious parking job. #whogavemealicense

My car’s the black one… I actually parked over the line. Usually I consider it acceptable if like, one tire sortakinda touches the line. But I am full on in an other person’s space. Sorrryyyy. But don’t worry, Jenny of Peanut Butter & Jenny does it too, so we’re totally in the clear.

I’m off for the night, I’ve got work in the morning! Have a great evening, even if it was was Pretty Little Liar-less for me ):

Are you a good driver?

Are you a serial-forgetter?

New Installation…

I have always believed in the power of words.

Positive, negative, long, short, significant, filler… to me, words strung together can be more effective than a picture. That’s part of the reason that I’ve always loved writing, even for school, and part of the reason that I love blogging as much as I do – even with my relatively short time spent in the blogging world.

For me, English class was about as good as school was ever going to get. My job was to read and then write a paper to prove something: to make an argument, to take a stance, and reflect how the author’s work impacted my life and my views. It kinda goes without saying that the books I didn’t even attempt to care about (I’m looking at you, Grapes of Wrath and All The King’s Men…) were the papers that I was practically embarrassed to turn in. I mean, I had completely disregarded someone’s words, someone’s hard work, because I thought it might be difficult to read.

Words have always inspired me.

I love the way that one simple quote can totally light a fire under my ass. Seeing someone articulate the way that I’m feeling, or give me the motivation to push through something difficult is one of the most sensational feats that our society has achieved. The power of words has made me consider writing as a career for the last ten years – the only one that has persevered through my outrageous swings in what I want to do with my life. But words are everywhere, not just in books. Songs, poems, conversation, speeches – these are all rich sources of inspiration, if you can find one that “speaks” to you. Find one that says something you’ve always wanted to hear, and it can change the way you see everything.

That brings me to my genuine point: use words carefully. They’re a blessing, a gift and not a right. Which is why I’m implementing a new weekly installment…

Super Quote Sunday.

Meet this week’s quote…

This is probably one of my all-time favorite quotes. I saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s when I was eight, and Audrey was a quick idol for me. She was even the source of my senior quote this year, although I didn’t use this particular one because so many people in the past have used it.

But what I love about it has so much more to do with the content than the speaker. Audrey has always been an inspiration to me since the movie, but I was truly shocked when I heard that this quote came from her.

Think about the people that you consider to be truly beautifuldo they fit the prescribed mold for what beauty is? Or do they possess something intangible, something that you really need to look carefully to see? The people who I value the most maybe aesthetically beautiful, but they have a myriad of intrinsic characteristics that comprise so much more of their personality than their physical attributes do.

From what I’ve found, it’s so much easier to love yourself when you let yourself love other people. For some reason, this is ridiculously difficult for me – I’m so guarded it’s stressful, and I used to be terrified of people knowing too much about me, of people being able to understand me, mostly because I didn’t understand myself. When I finally learned to see the good in others, I could see some of the same things in myself. Learning to appreciate things in myself lent itself to exploring what I like about others even more. As this happened, it became easier and easier to tell people what I appreciated about them, and even to open myself up a little bit [still something major to work on, though]

The last part of this quote is what always hits me the hardest. Even with the technological advances that effectively allow us to be in constant contact with others, it can be so so easy to feel like an island – distant from everyone, alone, and like the weight of [your] world is on your shoulders, and yours alone. But the honest-to-God truth? You are never alone. Parents, friends, family, strangers even – all these people will leap to your side, even if sometimes it feels like they’ve abandoned you. But it’s not a one way relationship – we have to be ready to do the same thing for them. No one is a mind reader. If you hide your problems, it will take a lot longer for anyone at all to realize that they even exist.

To me, Audrey’s words are inspirational. This quote makes me want to challenge myself, to push my boundaries to truly see the best in people, to let only positive words pass my lips, and to lean on other people when I need them.

Whew! That was probably the most I’ve written in a post… like, ever. But anyways, I’m really excited about this little weekly situation and I hope you guys liked it! Totally send some feedback my way!!

I’ll hopefully have another post up later today, but I’ve been so excited about this one that I had to get it posted right away!!

What is your favorite quote?

Life Is Good.

The day started like this.

Katelyn’s cookie dough cereal + blackberrs

And then it ended like this:

If you’re wondering, yes, I did tear the packet open and lick it clean. And I’m damn proud of it.

I’m hanging out in Clemson, and Daddy and I scored some Three Spoons frozen yogurt after dinner – easily one of the best salads I’ve ever had followed by the ULTIMATE bowl of froze.

Our tour is tomorrow morning, and I already know that I don’t want to leave.

At least I come back in two weeks (:

Best nut butter out there?

I love love love PB Co. but it always tastes more like dessert [white chocolate, dark chocolate, maple, what?!]

[sorry for the brief post, but I’ve got a game to watch!! Go Heat!]

Guess where and an update!

I’m going tomorrow!!!

C L E M S O N!

I’m just a little excited. NBD. My dad hasn’t seen campus yet, so he and I are driving down EARLAY EARLAY tomorrow morning and coming back Friday night [I’m gonna be in the car fo-evaa]

Like, I’ve even planned a nice run around campus (: I mean, it’s gonna need to happen at like the crack o dawn so I don’t die of heat exhaustion, but that’s not the point! [Sup exaggeration.] I seriously couldn’t be more excited… it’s gotta be a good sign of the year to come, right?!

Ok, now to the serious stuff… [sorta]

When I started this blog, I was a pretty committed vegan, and had been for a few months previous. But, we’re always learning, and sometimes we learn that something isn’t perfect for our lifestyle.

For me, veganism wasn’t exactly what I wanted. And that’s fine! That’s life! Truthfully, I missed Greek yogurt, I missed fish – but I certainly don’t miss chicken/pork/beef, so that still won’t be on here.

Now, that doesn’t mean I’ll be eating dairy and eggs and fish all day erry day. I found a lot through veganism that I absolutely love – like not counting calories, eating what my body wants, and salads the size of my head. [PS, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all the comments on the intuitive eating post – it was absolutely incredible, I couldn’t have appreciated it more!] These discoveries were huge steps in terms of my mental and physical health, and I truly feel that they came on through blogging and veganism, but as Robert Frost once wrote, “Nothing gold can stay.

Plus, it’s not like I’m coming into something really bad. Check out last night’s dessert…

Not a bad deal, right?! A deep chocolate VitaMuffin with plain Greek + cherry extract! Seriously, I’m obsessed with all Vita creations. I have yet to be disappointed. Just wish the banana muffin was walnut-free! Damn you allergies…

Oh, and one statement about caffeine:

A venti iced black coffee – while delicious – will give you the shakes and make it dangerous to just about anything.

Not a joke, I was shaking for hours after I finished it. Oh, and it DEMOLISHED my appetite for the day! Breakfast was a good one [pic right after], but it should not have held me over until 3:30 PM if I ate at 8 AM!

  • kashi go lean
  • 1/4c peanut flour blended with 1/2c ish of almond milk
  • topped with a ginormous banana
  • + cinnamon!

But seriously caffeine, that’s not normal. Don’t do that to my appetite again.

Might as well show yall what I ended the unintentional fast with, right?

Shalad beasht! Topped with a Trader Joe’s Premium Salmon patty – despite being in my freezer for EVAAAH this was still super yum! Also in the bowl:

  • Baby romaine
  • Grape tomatoes
  • Carrot
  • Half a zucchini
  • Annie’s Gingerly [can I take this with me to Clemson tomorrow?! I don’t want to be without it… seriously though.]

I would do a WIAW post, but since the caffeine demolished my appetite, I’m not sure that it would do a whole lot… So how about the workout?

So first, let me preface by saying that I work at a gym – not like an athletic gym, but a kid’s athletic center where I’m a girls gymnastics coach! [I’m obsessed with my job and the people I work with, but that’s another post for another time.] After working two morning classes, my boss, a coworker, and I were just kinda hanging out [and I was twitching, so NBD] and decided to mess around [responsibly, of course!] on the Tumble Track and the floor! I ended up throwing a couple of my old tumbling passes and …. I CAN STILL DO THEM!!! Sans wrist guards, too! [the one I tried was a front tuck step out to round off back handspring back tuck, just so ya know!]

Then I got cocky and decided to try a back walkover – and my flexibility is super lame, and was when I was training! As soon as I was upside down, I thought I had herniated, seriously! Hhah it was paiiinful. Yikes. All’s good now, though (:

When I got home, I decided to put my fidgeting to good use and do a quick yoga workout! I used the Maura Barclay video on Exercise again, it’s so good! A great, quick thirty minutes that flies by!

Alright, I’m headed to bed since I’ve got an EARLY AS EFFFF start tomorrow morning! Have a wonderful evening, bloggies!

PS, sorry that this post is so atrociously late – I promise, I had really honorable intentions of posting Monday… then Tuesday… so now this is gonna have to do!

Love you guys again!

I think that this video fits nicely with the day, don’t you?

Although the sunshine wasn’t goin’ too strong early this morning, I still managed to have a nice breakfast!

A yummy protein cereal bowl! 1 cup of kashi go lean [so obsessed!] with almond milk mixed with a scoop of Sun Warrior, then topped with sliced strawberries (: I know lots of people say that cereal can’t hold them over as far as breakfast goes, which is why I think it’s so important to squeeze in that protein! I know that many people in America tend to overestimate how much protein they need, but that doesn’t mean its something to forgo all together. This bowl actually held me over for about three and a half hours! It was sahhh weet!

When lunchtime rolled around, I had planned on having some channa masala… but when I walked into the kitchen, all I could think about was pasta. Now, I don’t know if yall have read this post from Amanda of Running with Spoons yet, but if you haven’t, stop reading now and go check it out! Sure, channa masala is great and all – but my body wanted pasta. Pasta and ketchup, specifically.

See, when I was little, we had all these au pairs – live in nannies, basically – from South Africa. And all of them put ketchup on everything. Grilled cheese, scrambled eggs, macaroni & cheese, pasta… so I learned to eat all these things with ketchup! Now, I’ve grown out of most of these things, but the ketchup has pretty much been a staple in my diet – I. Love. It.

And even though this carby & delicious bowl of pasta wasn’t what I had planned on eating today, it was exactly what I wanted. I used to avoid pasta because I thought I wouldn’t be able to have any portion control around it – and I can’t believe I’ve stayed away for so long. It’s so wonderful to see you again, pasta (: Since this was exactly what I wanted to eat, I was so mindful of eating it. I even realized with a few bites left that I was full, and that I didn’t need to finish every last bite. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but to me, this bowl of pasta is like… recovery. It’s not putting obsessive amounts of thought into what I should eat, of what I’ve planned my meal to be. It’s living in the moment, accepting that pasta is god damn fantastic, and I don’t need to run eight miles in a day to “deserve” to eat it.

In fact, I don’t need to run period to earn a lunch like this. Which is incredibly fortunate for me, because some MAY-JOR ankle pain caused me to postpone the run I had planned for this afternoon. I really thought about running through the pain, but I’m glad I made the decision to just do yoga instead. My ankle was giving me a problem just walking around the house, and as guilty as I originally felt for skipping it, I know it was the right decision for me.

Post-yoga and strength, I felt a little fruity snack action was in orderrr:

Banana with fruit spread & two Medjool dates! I love fruit (: NOMMMS

Then I basically just lounged around the house until I was hungry for dinssss. The only time I left my house today was to pick up my brother from exams. #party

Dinner was very lunch-inspired. I planned on a salad with baked tofu… but I couldn’t get excited about it. Pretty soon, a sandwich was the only thing that I wanted. I sliced up a Fuji apple on the side with some yellow bell pepper matchsticks to go with my peanut butter & jam sandwich. I think I have a new favorite jam: 365 Fruits of the Forest Fruit Spread! It’s got strawberries, black cherries, raspberries, and blackberries in it! I’m rather obsessed (;

I’ve got work early tomorrow morning, so I’ll be signing off soon! Hope yall had an excellent & indulgent Friday! Oh, and HAPPY DONUT DAY?!

Do you like ketchup?

Did you partake in Donut Day?

I didn’t, but my brother & his friend definitely did (:

I’m a Six Year Old.

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.. there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart.. I’ll always be with you.”

Winnie the Pooh

Isn’t that quote too cute?! Maybe I’m just being sentimental because one of my best friends is leaving for the summer soon [but I get to go visit her!!], or maybe it’s that graduation has finally hit me – regardless, Winnie the Pooh will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Then again, maybe I just want to be a kid again. Guess what I watched Tuesday night?

Ohhhh yeah, baby. Hercules is totally one of my favorite Disney movies! Potentially just for this song… Been obsessed since I was a little girl!

Now, to keep me from dwelling on my favorite past times, let’s move onto my day!

The Workout

Yoga was all I wanted this morning! I decided to roll with Bethenny Frankel for today’s practice (:

This is like the third time I’ve done this video, and I still love it! Everything that she says is so funny! I love that this video shows what a real person she is… She says how hard certain parts of the workout are for her, even though she’s been doing yoga for like twenty years! Totally motivating for me to keep working my butt off with this yoga stuff (:

The Eats

I made breakfast last night and let it sit in the fridge – a Fitnessista breakfast cookie that was calling mahh naaaame!

A strawberry banana breakfast cookie, nonetheless (: When I was little, my absolute favorite flavor combo was strawberry banana! Yogurt, smoothies, Quaker oatmeal packets – and God help you if you tried to give me anything else. [Nooope. No picky eater here.] More specifically, I wanted strawberry banana Trix yogurt – errrysingle day! My poor parents, having to deal with all that…

Strawberry Banana Breakfast Cookie

Inspired by the Fitnessista

  • 1/3c rolled oats
  • 1T peanut flour
  • 1/2 scoop Sun Warrior
  • 1/2 mashed banana
  • 3 mashed strawberries
  • topped with leftover banana slices & one more strawb(: YUMMMSSS.

I feel like I totally didn’t do anything with my morning! Like, I finished breakfast, and all of a sudden it was 11:30 and I had to go pick up my brother between his exams! He came home and we watched one episode of True Blood before I had to run him back to school…. One of the many benefits of living a mere two miles away! About halfway through the episode, my tummy started grumblinnn. I loved Carrie’s Luscious Bowl so much last night, I decided to try it again this afternoon!

Ok. So this picture is literally despicable. But you can’t win em all…. plus, the cauliflower was still steaming and it fogged up my camera screen! What am I supposed to do about that?! I guess I just had to go ahead and eat it (;

Tha Mix!

  • 1/4c wheatberries
  • 1/2c chickpeas
  • steamed cauliflower
  • Annie’s Lite Gingerly dressing –I AM SO OBESSED.

After lunch, I suddenly felt like I was running all over the place! I had to run a couple errands, clean up the house, and then make it over to my friend’s by 2:30! The best part is that when I got there, we literally sat around and watched some trashy special on TV – it was like, the fifty most memorable swimsuit moments hahaha. Chelsea Handler was one of the commenters, and OH. MY. GOD. I love her humor. She’s so crude & kinda mean but so funny at the same time!

I left my friend’s by like 3:50 and made sure to have a snack as I was leaving….

BANANA BREAD LARABAR! This isn’t my favorite flavor [which is weird, cause usually I’m sold on banana anything & everything] but it totally got the job done for today (:

Thursdays are seriously my longest days at work… Always at least four hours, and all my students were talking about how excited they were for the end of school, I was practically throwing myself around the place for their attention! Wore me out pretty quick! So of course, I needed a little help for dinner….

Whole Foods’ brown rice – dragon vegetable roll! I’m so obsessed with this, there was TONNNS OF AVOCADO. I’m so down. I washed it down with this bad boy:

Dr. Zevia!!!! New-to-me flaaaavaaaa! Dr. Pepper used to be one of my FAVORITE drinks, like I was absolutely obsessed with it, but never let myself drink it, and this stuff literally rivals it. So yummmaaayyy!

I was still jonesing for somethin’ sweet a little later, so I snagged a couple chocolate-fruit-stuffed dates:

Two Medjool dates with cocoa powder & fruit spread!

Today felt pretty uneventful… it all just kinda slipped away from me! Oh well, it was worth it!

I thought I would be getting this post up earlier, so I could squeeze in some more Disney action before bed… but now it’s like 11:15 PM… guess not. I’ve got a 9 AM date with hot yoga tomorrow so I wanna get to bed pronto!

Are yall ready for the weekend?! I am!!

Actually, I’ll be working all weekend…. and my life is kinda like a weekend right now… but it’s still so fun to say!

Did you like Disney movies? What was your fave?

I like how I asked these questions in the past tense, like I don’t currently have an obsession with Disney. My favorites are Sleeping Beauty, Hercules, & Cinderella!

What are your thoughts on sushi?

I’ve been loving finding sushi rolls without any fish in them! I totally don’t mind eating fish right now [I’m no perfect vegan!] but I like exploring what’s out there!

See yall on Fryyyyyday (:

What I Ate Wednesday! Numero Uno!

Good evening darlings! Let’s start with my first WIAW, shall we?

[sometimes I think I sound like an adult… and it scares me.]

Technically, I ate breakfast in two parts… Kinda. Part I looked like this

Times dos! Two fancy Medjool dates before my run! More on that one latahhh (;

When I arrived home, yoga-ed, and showered, I enjoyed this bad boy:

Katelyn’s Cookie Dough Cereal! With the requisite Tervis Tumbler S-Cup, of course. PS, finding straws to go with that cup was so so so exciting. It’s the little things, guys (:

In the bowl:

Hi blurry strawbs. At least you tasted beautiful.

Lunchskies (:

Salad beaaaast! GRRRR! Baby romaine, grape tomatoes, corn, snow peas (sugar snap? not sure.), steamed cauliflower, and MY NEW FAVORITE DRESSING! Annie’s Lite Gingerly – oh my God. I died when I tasted this!! Annie’s, you can do no wrong. And I had the last one of these guys on the side…

I told you guys the CrackBerry was with me at all times. Because it is.

I finally tried one of Carrie’s Luscious Bowls! I LOOOVED IT ❤

I used quinoa, tofu, broccoli, and MORE GINGERLY DRESSING. SOOO YUMMM.

Of course, I don’t think I can survive without my snackies. Here’s the first one of the day…

Sprouted bread [sesame – not my favorite, truthfully…] with coconut butter & strawberry fruit spread. This tasted perfectly like SUMMER! As much as I love coconut butter on its own, the fruit spread aaaalllways amps it up for me!! Yeaaaaah buddy. Oh, and I totally had a second piece once I finished this one (:

Dessert…. kinda went unphotographed. My beeeeeee. But it was four dates & two handfuls of almonds. Like… a Larabar. Just pre-food-processing.

This is a date.

… and these are almonds. Tee hee hee……?

And I totally snagged an extra date after lunch. SUP nature’s candy (:

The Workout For Today!

I woke up bright and early at 7 AM to get ready for my run, and made it to the trail by 7:40. I did five miles in 53:54 [I’m not positive about the seconds, but I know it was 53 mins] at a trail near my house! When I made it home, I passed my first day of the 21 Day Yoga Challenge with an Exercise TV video on el laptop-o. It was just a ten minute video, nothin’ craaaaze.

Then I spent most of the day with this guy…

My dog Duke! He’s a sweetie and is gettin’ to be like, 12 or 13 years old! I eventually did get him to come out of the dirt…. lucky me. Ain’t he cute?!?!

But the BIGGEST event of today was my brother’s lacrosse game! It was a huge deal for our school, because the team hasn’t gotten this far [state semi-finals] since 2006, when we won state! Unfortunately, we lost,  but I couldn’t be prouder of my brother – not just for this game, but for the season in general. He and his team have given so much time, effort, energy, and faith to the program, and it has totally paid off.

He even posed with me after one of his practices (: [this was before prom] GOODNESS GRACIOUS I AM SO PALE. Oh well…. no skin cancer for this chick, I guess?

And that’s the recap of mi diaaaa! Hope yall had a WONDERFUL + WARM WEDNESDAY!
